Meats, like chicken, turkey and pork, need to be cooked to the proper (or a specific) temperature before eating. If not cooked properly, these meats could make us really sick! The best way to check if your meats are safe to eat is with a meat thermometer.
There are two basic types of meat thermometers: digital and dial. Both of these thermometers work the same. First, you insert the sharp point of the thermometer into the meat. Next, you read the temperature on the dial or the digital display. Depending on the doneness of the food, it will read lower or higher temperatures. Here are some examples of the safe temperatures for some cooked meats.
Meat to Internal Temperature
Ground beef 74°C (165°F)
Pork sausage 74°C (165°F)
Turkey meatballs 74°C (165°F)
Chicken fingers 74°C (165°F)
